In addition, sales of fabrics, apparel and footwear increased by 13.8%, sales of other personal and household goods increased by 12.7%, sales of pharmaceuticals, medical and fragrance products increased by 9.8%, sales of construction materials increased by 4.4%, and sales of fuels and lubricants The amount increased by 0.3%.
However, sales of books, newspapers, magazines and stationery fell 16.9%, furniture and household appliances fell 7%, hypermarkets and food sales fell 2.6%, and computer and communications equipment sales fell 2%.
The data also shows that in December 2021, Brazil's retail sales fell by 0.1% month-on-month and 2.9% year-on-year. In the fourth quarter of 2021, retail sales in Brazil fell by 2.1% quarter-on-quarter and 4.5% year-on-year.
Between 2017 and 2020, retail sales in Brazil increased by 2.1%, 2.3%, 1.8% and 1.2% respectively.
Industry insiders said that Brazil's retail sales will maintain growth momentum in 2021, but the country's retail industry has not yet recovered to the level before the outbreak of the new crown in March 2020.
