Recently, due to concerns about insufficient supply of imported liquefied natural gas, EU natural gas prices have surged by 40%. Some experts analyzed that, affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the EU reduced the import of Russian energy to sanction Russia and sought alternatives to Russian energy. But in fact, this measure not only led to the European energy crisis, but also increased the dependence of the EU on energy supply in other regions and exacerbated the fluctuations in energy prices.

The rise in EU natural gas prices is due to rumors that the Australian liquefied natural gas industry will hold a strike, which may affect liquefied natural gas exports, leading to concerns about insufficient energy supply in the EU. International political science professor Murat Aslan stated that this incident is also a reflection of the EU's sanctions against Russia. He also emphasized that the EU's search for renewable energy alternatives to Russian energy has not been successful, and the EU's sanctions against Russia will undoubtedly have a direct negative impact on the European energy market for a period of time.

International Political Science Professor Murat Aslan: Although Europe has been discussing the use of renewable energy sources such as hydrogen based energy to replace fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas, it has not been successful to this day. Therefore, the EU's choice to sanction Russia will undoubtedly have a negative impact.

Leonhard Bienbaum, CEO of German energy giant Ion Energy Group, predicts that in the future, due to the trend of reducing Russian energy imports in Europe, natural gas prices in Europe will continue to rise due to the lack of energy supply at the same price point.

Leonhard Bienbaum, CEO of E.ON Energy Group: We have to make it clear that the EU has changed its energy structure and reduced its imports of Russian energy due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. This trend will continue, so the EU energy crisis is far from over. In the long run, we expect prices to continue to rise as we are unable to access cheap energy from Russian pipelines, so natural gas prices may be two to three times higher than they are now, and we are afraid that this upward trend will not change in the short term.
