Inflows into India's equity fund regular investment program surged to a record $3 billion in September, bringing equity assets in India funds to more than $37 billion in September.

The influx of retail funds into India equity mutual funds shows no signs of abating.

Ordinary investors in India poured heavily into equity funds in September, setting a new monthly record of 245 billion rupees ($2.9 billion), bringing India's total equity fund assets to more than $37 billion, according to data released by the Mutual Fund Association of India on Thursday. Previously, $2.8 billion was invested through the SIP in August.

Despite the high valuations of India equities, people are willing to invest more wealth in the stock market from traditional assets such as real estate, bank deposits and gold, and some investors say the record high participation of mutual funds highlights "the structural trend of savings shifting to equities in the India market."

In the past, India's stock market has attracted large foreign capital inflows, but as global investors have recently shifted their focus to other regions, such as China, this has put some outflow pressure on India's stock market. However, increased capital investment by domestic investors in India has helped the stock market mitigate the impact of this withdrawal of external funds.

Hitesh Thakkar, acting CEO of the Mumbai ITI Mutual Fund, said that the domestic investment situation in India is very optimistic, and now investors understand that the stock market goes up and down, but in the long run, investing in the stock market can help them make money, so the share of mutual funds in financial assets has been growing.
